Aldershot & District bus Fleet No. 216 with registration LOU 44 was a 1954 built Dennis Lance 3 with East Lancs bodywork withdrawn in 1964 and is seen here on route 52 to Crookham via Fleet, Hartley Row, Hook & Hatch. The location is probably Basingstoke but that's a guess on my part. |

Devon General bus AEC OD 7505 taken at Exeter on 1953 with extensive background data supplied by 'Rich': this AEC Regent III with Short Bros 52 seat body was one of 24 purchased by Devon General in 1933, entering service the following year. This example (DR218) was one of 5 converted to open-top configuration in 1955 by Longwell Green. In this guise it outlived its closed top brethren by 4 years being replaced in 1961 by the famous 'Sea-dog' Atlanteans. Enterprise - Isle of Wight - bus Photographed at Sandown in 1950, Enterprise bus AVW 453 was a Dennis Lancet with Eastern Counties B35R body and at some stage it gained a Gardner 5LW engine. From the PSV Circle News: AVW 453 was new to Eastern National, Chelmsford as 3475 in May 1934, it passed to Ministry of Works and Buildings in 1940 [requisitioned?] and then to Wavell [as Enterprise Bus] in the forties. It was sold by Wavell to J.Stevenson [Yellow Bus Service], Spath in January 1951 and was withdrawn in February 1957. |

Southern Vectis - Isle of Wight - bus This 1950 shot was very likely taken on this bus's first day in service on The Island as, although it's from a largely undocumented collection of negatives, at least I know that the year was 1950. From the PSVC’s SVOC history 2PK10, p.37 ...... UF 7396 Leyland TD1 71815 Brush UL27/28R, new 4/31 to Southdown (896). Originally had a Short H26/24R body, the Brush replacement was fitted in 3/44. Moved to Wilts & Dorset (27) in 6/39. On loan to SVOC (745) from 3/50 to 12/51. One of 6 similar vehices on loan from W&D at the same time: UF 7383/86/93/96, 7417/27 (SVOC 743-6). |
